Two Chennai-bound flights from the Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) here were cancelled as heavy rains triggered by cyclone ‘Michaung’ lashed Tamil Nadu on Monday.
“Several places in Tamil Nadu have witnessed heavy rains due to the cyclone. The Chennai International Airport has been closed for flights operations. As a result, two Chennai-bound flights from Bhubaneswar have been cancelled. The flight operations will resume once there is improvement in weather conditions,” said BPIA Director Prasanna Kumar Pradhan.
Notably, cyclone ‘Michaung’ is likely to cross south Andhra Pradesh coast between Nellore and Machilipatnam during forenoon of December 5 due to a severe cyclonic storm with a maximum sustained wind speed of 90-100 kmph gusting to 110 kmph, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has said.
