The East Coast Railway has filled up 16,405 vacant posts in last eight years through a recruitment drive by the Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) and the Railway Recruitment Cell (RRC).
In the current financial year 2022-23, total 4,118 candidates have been appointed in the ECoR through the recruitment drive.
A total number of 5,259 candidates have been appointed in the East Coast Railway in Level 1 posts during last 8 years and the recruitment process was done by Railway Recruitment Cell (RRC). Apart from Level 1 posts, 11,146 candidates got appointment in the Railway in different categories in last 8 years and the recruitment process was conducted by RRB Bhubaneswar and RRB Secunderabad. The posts were mostly of safety category. These apart, a recruitment process is also in final stage for filling up 2,858 vacancies in the ECoR in various levels including maximum numbers in safety categories.
Despite the challenges of Covid-19 epidemic, the ECoR has increased its employees' strength from 45,507 as on April 1, 2019 to 47,331 as on January 1, 2023.
As a result, the percentage of vacancies to total sanctioned staff strength in ECoR has been reduced from 17.3% as on April 1, 2019 to 14.9% as on January 1, 2023; whereas the national benchmark of percentage of vacancies to total sanctioned staff strength in Indian Railways is 21.2% as on January 1, 2023.
