At least one person died while five others suffered critical injuries when a picnic van collided with a parked truck in Dasapalla in Nayagarh district on Thursday. The deceased was identified as Trilochan Rout of Athagarh.
As per reports, nearly 15-16 youths were returning after a picnic from Daringbadi in Kandhamal district and were heading towards Athargarh when the van hit the truck from behind at around 5 am on NH 57 near Takera Square in Dasapalla.
It was suspected the driver lost control due to poor visibility. While a person was crushed to death in the collision, five others suffered serious injuries. Fire Service personnel, on getting information, reached the spot and started rescue operations.
The injured were rushed to the Dasapalla hospital. Official sources said that one of the injured was shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital as his condition became critical.
Meanwhile, police seized the body for postmortem and started an investigation.
