The PG Department of Tourism and Travel Studies, Berhampur University, organised the department’s first-ever two-day national conference on the theme "Sustainable Coastal and Marine Tourism Practices," which was inaugurated here on Wednesday.
Several distinguished figures from academia, industry, and Government graced the conference, including Dr Ratikanta Pattanayak, former Assistant Director, Department of Tourism, Government of Odisha, who delivered his address on sustainability dimensions of marine and coastal tourism practices; Prof Nimit Ranjan Chowdhary, Head, Department of Tourism and Hospitality, Jamia Millia Islamia University, New Delhi who discussed about post Covid tourism phenomenon and cited examples of different theories on sustainable tourism practices across the globe and Prof Sitikantha Mishra, Pro Vice-Chancellor, Sikha ‘O’ Anusandhan, Bhubaneswar, who highlighted the importance of marine and coastal tourism from the perspective of spiritual dimensions focusing on Indian ethos on spirituality and religious dimensions on Nature conservation.
BU Vice Chancellor Prof Geetanjali Dash in her address highlighted the importance of sustainable development for coastal and marine tourism by giving examples from India in general and southern Odisha in particular. The opening day of the conference comprised three technical sessions where dignitaries from all over India presented their scholarly findings on the theme.
