New chairman of CII Odisha State Council Sashi Sekhar Mohanty on Wednesday termed Odisha as a land of opportunity for start-ups, be it of medium or mega scale.
Talking at the conference on ‘Odisha: A land of opportunities for MSMEs, Entrepreneurs, IT and Industries’ organised by the CII State Council, he said that, “There are more than 1,500 start-ups in the State and objective is to set up 5,000 more start-ups by 2025. Odisha truly defines future destination for IT industry among tier-2 cities.”
CII Eastern Region deputy chairman Shiv Siddharth Kaul opined that Odisha needs thriving MSMEs as much as big industrial houses. MSMEs cannot thrive without market and it is the duty of big industries to connect them with various regions. Big industrial houses should set some quota like 5-10% to buy from MSMEs.
Javastra Technologies MD JB Pany emphasises on the need of robust logistic infrastructure to reduce the cost in transportation.
President-Strategy and Business Development, Vedanta Limited Dr Tapan Kumar Chand said, “Mother industries need to handhold and provide mentoring support to MSMEs.

8,000 bicycles to community partners

BHUBANESWAR: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Thursday distributed 8,000 bicycles among community partners working in urban areas of the State. A programme in this regard was held at the convention hall of Lok Seva Bhawan here.
Swachh workers and partners, Aahaar workers, Jal Saathis and supervisors were among those who received the bicycles.
The event was organised in collaboration with the Housing & Urban Development and Mission Shakti Departments.
Speaking on the occasion, the CM said, “Mission Shakti members have taken up many responsibilities in community participation programmes in various cities. Everyone is happy with their work. The State Government is providing them bicycles so that they can carry out their responsibilities easily.”
