There are serious allegations by workers unions that Odisha and Delhi Governments are not paying the various dues of construction workers in time and are also abnormally delaying the process of registration and renewal of construction workers in the Welfare Board.
Even the compensation payment for the death and disability of construction workers are not paid for years together. The Welfare Board money is not coming from the State Government budget. It is a collection of 1% from the construction project. Ministers, Chief Minister, MLAs are utilising the fund for vested interest.
Why should the welfare fund be used by the Minister and MLAs for other purposes, when not single pie is coming from the State Government budget, said former MP, national vice president and State president of INTUC, INBCWWF Dr RC Khuntia while addressing 42 construction workers unions at Delhi on December 22. The meeting was held under the banner of the National Mazdoor Adhikar Manch.
Around 1,000 delegates of 42 unions were present in the meeting, which was presided over by Md Amzad Hason. If all pending dues are not cleared, the construction workers would go for dharana before the Labour Commissioner Office and Welfare Board Office, it was decided.
