The play ‘Bayen’ staged in the 3rd evening of Summer Theatre Festival 2023, organised by National School of Drama (NSD) Repertory Company, Delhi in collaboration with SAIL, Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) left the audiences spellbound. The play based on the acclaimed short story by Mahasweta Devi and originally directed by the late Usha Ganguly, staged by the talented artists at the Civic Centre auditorium, captivated the audience and encouraged contemplation on social stigmas such as casteism and superstition. The esteemed Chief Guest of the evening, Dr. B K Hota, ED (Medical & Health Services), RSP, inaugurated the event by lighting the ceremonial lamp.
The play 'Bayen' provided a captivating exploration of the diverse facets of human existence and the socio-economic disparities prevalent in society. Through vivid depictions, the play illuminated the unique experiences and struggles of the underprivileged communities, weaving together a rich tapestry of human life. Its purpose was to shed light on the marginalization faced by these communities and inspire reflection on the urgent need for a more inclusive and equitable society. The play received rave reviews from the art loving crowd of Rourkela.
The third day of the festival concluded with the felicitation of Mr. Rajesh Singh, Head of NSD Repertory Company, Delhi. The event was graced by the presence of Mr. Bhaskar Mohapatra, the coordinator of the festival, Professor Samar Muduli, a distinguished theatre personality, and Mrs. Archana Satpathy, DGM (PR) & CoC, RSP.
‘Laila Majnu’ and ‘Tajmahal Ka Tender’ are the two more fascinating dramas scheduled for the 4th & 5th evening of the festival that has been highly anticipated by theater enthusiasts.
