‘Akhara’ to be constructed in State’s every village: Rameshwar Oraon

The State’s Finance Minister, Dr Rameshwar Oraon attended the Karam festival organized at Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee University (DSPMU), Ranchi on Monday as the chief guest and he on the occasion said that Akhara will be constructed in every village of the State.

Accepting the challenge before the mother tongue of the tribals and locals, Oraon said that educated families, especially in urban areas, should speak in their mother tongue in their homes. He said that mother tongue is the heritage of our culture. “To save this, an Akhara will be constructed in every village. There will be a provision for this in the next cabinet budget,” he added.

The program was started by planting Karam Dali under the leadership of Pahan in the Akhara. The traditional worship of Karam Dali was done by Pahan, Dr Juran Singh Manki and Mahesh Bhagat. The guests were welcomed by the students of the department with musical accompaniment. After this, the visiting guests were welcomed by presenting them with traditional clothes and books. The welcome address was given by Coordinator of Tribal and Regional Languages of the University and Head of the Department of Khortha Department, Dr Vinod Kumar. After the worship of Karam Dali, Sharan Oraon narrated the folk story of Karma-Dharma. Famous folk singer Padmashree, Madhu Mansuri, present in the program, inspired to revive the extinct Akhara in Jharkhand through song and music. Senior litterateur Mahadev Toppo asked people to give literary form to the natural heritage which is an integral part of the culture.

On the occasion, DSPMU Vice Chancellor, Tapan Kumar Shandilya said that there is a need to preserve nature and environment through festivals. Vice Chancellor of Jharkhand Open University, Triveni Nath Sahu stressed on preserving the art of Jharkhand dance and music. On the occasion of this Karam Mahotsav, the book of literary theory 'Sahitek Bidhan' written by Dr Nitai Chandra, assistant professor of Kudmali and the book 'Jharkhand ke Swar Kokila: Janaki Devi' written by Dr Manoj Kachhap, assistant professor of Nagpur, was inaugurated by Dr Rameshwar Oraon.

On this occasion, Registrar of the University, Dr Namita Singh, Controller of Examinations, Dr Ashish Gupta, Dr Jinder Singh Munda of Hindi Department, Professor of Anthropology Department and Coordinator of Extinct Languages, Dr Abhay Sagar Minj, Dr Nalini Kant Mahato of Geography Department, Professor of CA IT, Dr Saha, former director of Tribal and Welfare Research Institute, Soma Singh Munda, Dr Narayan Oraon, professor of Kurukh language of Doranda College, Dr Nitai Chandra Mahato, assistant professor of the department, Dr Manoj Kachhap, Dr Ajay Kumar, Dr Sita Kumari, Dr Malti. Thousands of students of the university were present along with Bagisha Lakra, Dr Yugesh Kumar Mahato, Sunita Kerketta, Sushila Kumari, Santosh Murmu.
