‘2 kg paddy cut in every 75-kg bag in mandis in B’garh

Even after the farmers sell their paddy, money is not deposited in the farmer's account in time, alleged BJP leader and former Padampur MLA Pradeep Purohit here on Monday.

There is a widespread disorder in the mandis with paddy lying unsold at many places. Neither the Minister nor the officials are concerned about the plight of the farmers who had had to suffer due to this, he alleged further.

Purohit said he had already visited 40 markets and was shocked to find the exploitation of farmers was going on nonstop by way of paddy cutting under the plea of quality check in all Mandis.  A minimum of two kg of paddy is cut for 75 kg bag of grain. He charged that the paddy cutting at time was as high as 5 to 10 kg per bag. “If two kg of paddy is cut per bag, then 60 lakh metric tons of paddy will be raised from the market. The BJD Government will loot nearly Rs 400 crore from the farmers by this way,” said Purohit.

The State Government has announced that the farmers will get their payment within 24 hours.  But some farmers have complained that though they have already sold the paddy since December 15, but till now money has not been deposited in their  accounts.

Besides, Purohit alleged that all paddy of farmers was not bought though there is a Cabinet decision on this. As a result, the unsold paddy goes for distress sale which ultimately hits the interest of the farmers, he said. He said that brokers are enjoying a heyday as they are purchasing paddy at much less than the rate they sell paddy in Chhattisgarh. He demanded that the concerned Minister take exemplary step against the officials and millers looting the innocent farmers coming to mandis to sell their paddy.
