The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) announced on Friday that it will not confer any divisions or distinctions to students in the Class 10 and 12 board examinations in the upcoming academic session. The board had previously declared its intention to conduct exams for class 10 and 12 students starting from February 15.
The decision was communicated by CBSE Examination Controller Sanyam Bhardwaj through an official release. The release additionally stated that the responsibility of determining the best five subjects for calculating students’ marks will exclusively lie with the admitting college.
“If a candidate has taken more than five subjects, the decision to identify the best five subjects may be made by the admitting institution or employer,” said a CBSE release.
Furthermore, it is clarified that the Board does not calculate, declare, or provide the percentage of marks. If the percentage of marks is needed for higher education or employment, any calculations required may be performed by the admitting institution or employer,” stated a CBSE release.
This information was disclosed in response to queries from individuals questioning the criteria for calculating students’ percentages in the board’s examinations.
CBSE had decided last year not to issue any merit list of students when announcing the results for class 10 and 12 board exams. The board also refrained from announcing any toppers for class 10 and 12. The decision to abstain from releasing the CBSE toppers list and merit list aimed to prevent unhealthy competition among students, as stated in the CBSE result statement.
