Saurav made brand ambassador of Bengal by Mamata

Wednesday, 22 November 2023 | PNS | Kolkata

n what the political critics saw former Team India captain Sourav Ganguly outplaying Mumbai superstar Shah Rukh Khan, Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday appointed the former as the “brand ambassador” of Bengal. She announced the decision to “involve Sourav Ganguly as Bengal’s brand ambassador” at the much touted Bengal Global Business Summit.

Ganguly has of late emerged as an entrepreneur investing in steel business owning three steel factories in Bihar and Bengal.

“As everyone knows that Sourav Ganguly is a popular figure and he can work for the young generation in a very good manner ... I would like to involve him as Bengal’s Brand Ambassador,” Banerjee said.

“We must be positive and constructive,” Banerjee said as she handed over the certificate to Ganguly, a former India southpaw and ex-president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). She would not however, spare a word whether her new decision would end Khan’s inning or whether she would let him bat at the non-striker’s end.

In a move that many a critic saw as an end of Khan’s two-decade-old batting for Team Bengal, Banerjee handed the Brand Ambassador baton to Ganguly.
