The Mumbai police went into a “high alert” mode on Monday after a tip-off they received from the National Investigation Agency (NIA) that the country’s commercial capital faced a threat from a terrorist trained in Pakistan, China and Hong Kong.
The NIA had sent out an advisory of caution to the Mumbai Police after it received an email that one Sarfaraz Memon of Indore (Madhya Pradesh) who had terrorist training in Pakistan, China and Hong Kong was planning terror strikes in the metropolis.
Taking serious cognisance of the NIA’s alert, the Mumbai police resorted to drills of strategic roadblocks and random checks of vehicles. They also began to keep tabs on the movement of suspicious persons and unusual activities. They also asked their informers to remain alert.
The NIA is on the look-out for Sarfaraz Memon, whom the central agency as a “dangerous suspect” and an “enemy of the state”. Memon has reportedly landed in the metropolis.
Among other things, the NIA has passed crucial details about Memon like like his driving licence, Aadhar Card, Passport and other documents to the Mumbai Police.
