The CBI has arrested an Executive Director of GAIL in connection with the alleged Rs 50 lakh bribery case in which money changed hands to favour some contractors in the gas pipeline projects.
Along with Executive Director (Projects) KB Singh of Gas Authority of India Ltd. (GAIL), four others have also been arrested, including Director of Vadodara-based Advance Infrastructures Surender Kumar, officials said. It is alleged that the bribe was paid for favouring the company in two GAIL pipeline projects – Srikakulam to Angul and Vijaypur to Auraiya.
The CBI had received input about the bribe exchange following which, it launched an operation on Monday and made the arrests, they said. Earlier, the CBI registered a case against an Executive Director (Projects), GAIL, Noida, a private company based at Vadodara and its Director; a Chief General Manager, GAIL, a Senior General Manager of MECON Limited and others.
It was further alleged that the Director of private company had arranged the bribe amount of Rs 50 lakh, through two private persons. It was also alleged that the bribe of Rs 50 lakh would be delivered to ED of GAIL. In a trap operation, agency arrested Executive Director and private person after delivery of the bribe.
