After PWD Minister Atishi expressed her anguish on the non-functioning of street lights and dark spots in the national capital, the Public Work Department (PWD) has showcaused to five engineers over non-functional of street lights in several parts of the national capital. The notices were served on Friday to four engineers in south Delhi and one in northwest Delhi division. Concerning the same, the Minister pulled up PWD officials issuing clear instructions.

As per the report, Atishi instructed the PWD to submit a report on the non-functioning of street lights every evening by 8 pm. Some of the non-functional lights are on stretches handed over to the NHAI. The PWD has been given a deadline of Monday to make the remaining lights functional. She emphasized the necessity of the functioning of street lights. Since the Delhi Government is extremely sensitive towards women’s safety issues, the Vigilance Minister stressed the need for expeditious work.

“Keeping the interest of public safety in mind, I further instructed the officials that Street lights play an instrumental role in avoiding probable accidents during winters due to high precipitation fog and smog, so prompt action is necessary.” Atishi shared.According to the notice issued to one of the executives, it was found during a review directed by the PWD minister on December 7 that only 7,612 street lights are functional out of the total 7,742 under his jurisdiction.
