In a shocking impediment to the ongoing investigations into the ghastly murder of trainee air-hostess Rupal Grey in her flat at Andheri on Monday, the accused in the case Vikram Atwal was found dead in the lock-up of the Powai police station in north-east Mumbai, in a suspected case of suicide.
The body of 40-year-old Atwal was sent for post-mortem. As of now, no foul play has been suspected in Atwal’s death. Though the case is being treated as custodial death as of now, the police may register a case of suicide after the receipt of the post-mortem report. It may be recalled that on September 5, a trainee flight attendant with Air India, Rupal Ogrey (24), was found dead in a flat in N G Complex At Andheri with her throat slit. Within hours of crime.
The police arrested Vikram Atval, who used work as a member of the house keeping staff in the society.
The accused had allegedly entered Rupal's house on the afternoon of September 3 on the pretext of cleaning. The victim had a deep wound on her neck, a slit made using a sharp-weapon like a knife.
After his arrest, the accused confessed to his crime and the weapon was seized from him. He told the police that he committed the crime after she yelled at him.
