Continuing her husband's legacy of defying Maoist threats, Bijapur district’s Addavali gram Panchayat and Muria community woman Sarpanch Rita Mandavi is determined to bring about changes in the lives of tribal villagers.
Her husband Ghanshyam Mandavi was killed by Maoists a few months ago. He had made an active contribution in making people aware of their rights and promoting the schemes of the state government among the tribal community.
Rita, a mother of two minor children, has gone way beyond. She spends the honorarium received as Sarpanch for the welfare of the people of her village.
On Thursday, during a public interaction drive (Bhent-Mulaqat Abhiyan) at Kutru, Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel handed over a financial assistance of Rs 5 lakh to Rita Mandavi, a victim of Naxalite violence.
“I will spend this money on providing quality education and a better future to my children (4-year-old son and 2-year-old daughter) and will dedicate my life to serve the society and make people aware," said Rita.
