One railway employee identified as Ranjit kumar of Dhanbad loco shed died early on Thursday morning while removing debris of a derailed goods train near Gurpa station on Dhanbad - Gaya route. Another employee Mrig Narayan Singh sustained injuries and was treated at Railway hospital in Dhanbad. Later, he was shifted to Mission Hospital Durgapur in West Bengal for specialised treatment as has broken his ankles.
Mrig while talking to media persons at Dhanbad divisional railway hospital gave details of what caused the accident.
He said both were working near the crane that was lifting the damaged wagons that had derailed on October 26. The damaged wagon fell on them. Ranjeet first was taken to Gaya railway hospital but from there was shifted to Magadh Medical College and Hospital- Gaya in Bihar but he died while receiving treatment there . His body has since been sent for autopsy. Later, it would be brought to Dhanbad and then would be sent to Arrah, his native town for cremation.
Incidentally, the public relations department of Dhanbad railway division had no information about the incident till late evening.
It's worth mentioning that the tracks were closed for over 60 hours due to the derailment of a coal laden goods train due to engine failure. The aforementioned employees were deployed to remove the remains of the damaged wagons.
