In the State Sub-Junior Karate Championship, Prithviraj Pandey of Gwalior won the individual event in the age category of 12 years and 40 kgs.
He has made Gwalior district proud by defeating his rival in a one-sided match by performing tremendously in this weight category.
The state championship was organized in Pachmarhi by the Madhya Pradesh Sports Karate Association which is affiliated to the World Karate Federation.
11-year-old Nidhi Sharma won gold in individual kata and silver in 30 kgs weight category. With this win both Prithviraj Pandey and Nidhi Sharma have qualified for the National Karate Championship to be held at Talkatora Indoor Stadium in Delhi early next month.
According sources these two will represent Gwalior in the Madhya Pradesh team for the Nationals.
Talking to the media here, President of Karate-do Association of Gwalior Keshav Pandey and Technical Director Sensei Santosh Pandey said that 7 more players from Gwalior are yet to compete in the state level competition and affirmed that they will soon enter the field with the intention of making sure their tickets to the Nationals.
They added that currently the Madhya Pradesh teams consists of Nidhi Sharma, Prithviraj Pandey, Nikunj Ojha, Sarthakraj Tiwari, Ved Goyal, Harsh Yadav, Rohit Gurjar, and Dhruv Mishra. Amit Yadav is the Chief Coach of the team while Rakesh Goswami is the Team Manager.
