Photojournalist dies on way to Puri

Senior photojournalist Ashok Panda died in a road mishap near Satasankha on Friday while travelling by his motorcycle to cover the Rath Yatra in Puri.

Panda was working for a vernacular daily. His two-wheeler was hit by an unidentified vehicle and he sustained critical injuries. He was rushed to the Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar, where he succumbed to his injuries. His body was handed over to his family members following postmortem.

Panda hailed from Baisinga village in Mayurbhanj district. He is survived by his wife and a daughter. A pall of gloom descended on the media circles after Panda's death.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, State Congress president Sarat Pattanayak and BJP State president Samir Mohanty expressed deep grief over Panda’s demise.
