Haryana reports 5,736 Covid cases, five deaths; State Govt decides to keep schools, colleges closed till Jan 26

As many as 5736 fresh COVID-19 cases and five deaths were reported in Haryana on Monday taking the total case tally to 799887 and death toll to 10077.

The NCR region continued to be worst affected with Gurugram reporting 2621 cases, Faridabad 1071 cases and Sonepat 322 fresh infections.The daily positivity rate has increased to 14.90 percent.

In view of the surge in positive cases, the State Government on Monday decided to keep all schools and colleges in the state closed till January 26 in view of the increasing cases of COVID-19.

Education Minister Kanwar Pal said that during this time online, teaching will continue in which schools and colleges will take necessary action by focusing on the preparation of the upcoming examination.

According to the state’s health bulletin, two fatalities due to COVID were reported in Ambala while one death each was reported in Gurugram, Karnal, Ambala and Yamunanagar.

A total of 26 new cases of Omicron were reported in Haryana taking the number to 162. The active Omicron cases in the state stands at 17 ,the bulletin stated.

Among other districts, 344 positive cases were reported in Panchkula, 202 in Ambala, 171 in Karnal, 113 in Panchkula and 103 in Rohtak. Haryana reported the cumulative positivity rate of 5.34 percent. The COVID-19 recovery rate stood at 95.93 percent and the fatality rate was reported at 1.26 percent in the state, the bulletin added.

 SEVEN DEATHS, 3,969 CASES IN PUNJAB

 

Punjab reported seven deaths and 3969 fresh COVID cases on Monday.  The state reported a high positivity rate of 19.31 percent, the state’s health bulletin stated. In the last 24 hours, two deaths each were reported in Ludhiana and Bathinda and one fatality each was reported in Gurdaspur, Jalandhar and Patiala.

There are 19379 active cases in the state, out of which 304 are on oxygen support and 85 admitted in crucial care facilities. 885 people also recovered from the virus in the last 24 hours. 

According to the bulletin, the state’s infection tally increased to 625347 and COVID-19 death toll stood at 16683.

 Ludhiana reported the maximum number of 806 positive cases followed by 687 cases in SAS Nagar, 455 in Patiala, 311 in Jalandhar and 290 in Pathankot. Ludhiana also recorded the highest positivity rate of 48.77 percent, Bathinda reported 29.29 percent and Patiala 29.22 percent, the bulletin stated.

 2 DEATHS, 1200 FRESH CASES IN HIMACHAL

 

In a major spike in COVID cases, Himachal on Monday reported 1200 new infections and two deaths.  A day before, the state had reported 498 COVID cases.  A 41 years old male resident of Solan and 40 years old male resident of Shimla died due to COVID, the state’s health bulletin said.

The highest number of 363 cases were reported in Kangra district followed by 159 cases in Solan and 137 in Hamirpur. The number of active cases in the state reached 4186 including highest 1265 cases in Kangra. 157 patients recovered from the virus in the last 24 hours.

 COVID-19 CASES SOAR TO 967 IN CHANDIGARH

                                                          

Showing no signs of receding, Chandigarh’s daily Covid-19 tally climbed to 967 on Monday, which was the highest over the last several months. One more death due to the virus was reported in the city. The number of active cases has risen to 3253, according to the UT health bulletin.

The death toll rose to 1,081 as a 68-year-old male resident of Dadumajra was brought dead to GMSH Sector 16. He had tested positive for Covid-19 posthumously, it stated.  A positivity rate of 23.13 per cent was recorded on the day as 4,181 samples were tested in the last 24 hours. 

The Chandigarh Administration on Monday asked private hospitals to set aside at least 50 per cent of their total bed capacity as isolation beds and wards for Covid-19 care.   UT Health Secretary Yashpal Garg chaired a meeting with the office bearers of private hospitals.

During the meeting, the private hospitals were asked to strictly follow orders of reservation of 50 per cent beds, ceiling on the treatment charges and guidelines of the Central Government and ICMR about treatment of Covid-19 patients.
