Kolhan University’s 5th convocation ceremony
Governor Ramesh Bais on Friday said that understanding the importance of research in the university, every effort should be made to raise its level, research should show the innovative ideas inherent in our students so that the society benefits from it.
He was addressing Kolhan University’s 5th convocation function hled at Pillai Hall in Chaibasa. On the occasion 205 gold medalists and 15 candidates who had completed their PHDs would be feted during the convocation function.
Addressing the students, Bais said: “With the knowledge you have acquired here, you are entering your new and challenging life. Whatever profession you choose, you will have opportunities to showcase the knowledge you have gained during your stay at the University, in this age of competition you will have to excel with your talent. The goal of education is not limited to just getting a degree or it is not only a means of earning money. Education is an effective means of making a human being a character as well as a good citizen”.
He further said that knowledge is the most important capital. Always the person who knows and learns something new will be able to face the challenges of this period. Today there are immense opportunities available for the person who always develops his knowledge, skills and intelligence with curiosity, enthusiasm and alertness. Many Indian youth have achieved world-class successes through modern technology only on the strength of their skills.
“ Education is a powerful tool for the economic and social development of the nation. True empowerment comes from knowledge. If our country has to move ahead on the path of high growth then continuous effort to achieve high educational standards is very necessary. I understand that there should be a beautiful and good atmosphere in the university. Teachers should be devoted towards education in the true sense. The relationship between teacher and student should be strong. Our teachers should guide the students properly so that the students do not deviate from their objective,” he said.
Bais said that in this era of globalization the quality of higher education needs special attention. The university should be committed to provide quality education to the students in any case and it is very important to emphasize on quality education as well as skill development. For students to achieve success in various competitions, it is necessary for the university to work with commitment.
Around 9,000 students received degrees for which 25 centres have been made in Chaibasa, Jamshedpur, Ghatshila, Noamundi, Manoharpur, Chakradharpur and Seraikela-, for their distribution.
