Geetanjali Shree awarded in Bhopal

The English version of book by Gitanjali Shree, Tomb of Sand was released on Friday. Booker Prize awardee Gitanjali Shree's novel 'Rat Samadhi' originally published in Hindi has been translated into English as 'Tomb of Sand' by Daisy Rockwell.

Delhi-based writer Gitanjali has become the first Indian author to win the  International Booker Prize. She has been awarded the prestigious International Booker Prize for his novel 'Tomb of Sand'. Along with this, it is the first Hindi novel to have won the International Booker Prize.

It is the first Hindi language book to be selected for a prize of £50,000. The jury members described it as "fantastic and irrefutable". The novel is a story set in the shadow of the Partition of India, which depicts the story of an elderly woman after the death of her husband. The novel 'My' written by Geetanjali Shree in the year 2000 was selected for the 'Crossword Book Award' in the year 2001.

The Booker Prize is a prestigious international award. The award is given annually to a book written or translated in English and published in Britain or Ireland. The book selected for the 2022 award was announced at the London Book Fair on 7 April.

It is noteworthy that Gitanjali Shree was decorated with 'Vanmali National Story Award 2021-22' in a grand ceremony organized by Vanmali Srijan Peeth at Rabindra Bhawan, Bhopal from April 15 to 17, 2022. This prestigious event of Vanmali Srijan Peeth was organized under the guidance of Santosh Choubey, senior poet-story writer, Director of Vishwa Rang and Chancellor Rabindranath Tagore University.
