Due to incessant rains, the Ravishankar Sagar (Gangrel) dam on Mahanadi river in Chhattisgarh’s Dhamtari district is filled to its capacity (93 percent).
The dam's 14 gates have been opened. Ten thousand cusecs of water are being released from it due to excess accumulation of water, the Executive Engineer (Water Resources, Rudri) said in a statement on Sunday.
Of this, 7,800 cusecs of water are released through radial gate and 2,000 cusecs to the electrical board for 10 MW power generation.
A total of 37,000 cusecs of water are coming in from the catchment areas, the engineer added.
The 45 river bank villages have been alerted and its residents advised to move to safer places.
