The five-day Rang Triveni festival began on Thursday with Bagheli play Chhahur at Shaheed Bhavan Auditorium.
The play is directes by Anand Mishra and was presented by Saghan Society for Culture and Welfare.
Chhahur is a popular folk drama of Baghelkhand of Madhya Pradesh which is played from Deepawali to Gopastami.
It is basically done in singing style. The play begins with the rituals of goddess Sharda. Chhahur is born and grows up. One year there is a famine in the kingdom and the king asks his wife to collect the tax.
Manni gets the soldier to make money. That everyone should pay taxes on time, but when Chhahur opposes this, the king punishes him. All his cows and buffaloes are taken away. This upsets his family. Chhahur disguises himself to the king to bring back his cow buffaloes, while Chhahur finds the king's daughter Babuli.
While working, love happens between the two.
Babuli asks Chhahur to run away with him. But Chhahur refuses and promises Babuli that he will get her married. As the time passes, Chhahur goes away with his cow and buffalo.
