In a tragic incident in Sultanpur, a 27-year-old engineer was killed while his brother, also an engineer, sustained injuries as their car was hit by a truck, police said on Monday.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed grief over the death of the engineer in the road accident and directed the officials to ensure proper treatment to the victim’s younger brother, who too is critically injured.

The accident took place near Sauramau village on Sunday night, police said.

Reports said that the elder son of Sultanpur's senior pathologist Dr Manoj Agarwal, Kaustubh Agarwal, an engineer in Bengaluru in a multinational company, had come home on leave.

Around 12 o'clock on Sunday night, after having dinner at a dhaba, Kaustubh and his brother, also an engineer, went for a drive in their car. While leaving the city, Kaustubh was about to go on the Lucknow-Varanasi National Highway via Ayodhya bypass when they met with an accident.

While Kaustubh alias Gaurav died on the spot, his younger brother, Kartikeya, sustained critical injuries and was rushed to the district hospital from where he was referred to the King George’s Medical University Trauma Centre in Lucknow.

Meanwhile in Sonbhadra, at least 24 people were injured in a head-on collision between a bus and a truck in the Piprakhand area of the district.

Seven of the injured were critical and were referred to the district hospital, while the rest were being treated at a community health centre.

According to reports, the accident took place late on Sunday night when a private bus was travelling from Ambikapur in Chhattisgarh to Renukoot in Sonbhadra on the Varanasi-Ambikapur Road.

Babhani police station Station House Officer Manoj Kumar Singh said that the truck was going to Odisha from Farrukhabad in Uttar Pradesh. Community Health Centre Superintendent Dr Rajan Singh said seven of the injured were critical and referred to the district hospital.
