DU launches CSAS for UG admissions

Tuesday, 13 September 2022 | Staff Reporter | NEW DELHI

Delhi University (DU) on Monday launched the Common Seat Allocation System (CSAS) for undergraduate admissions for the 2022-23 academic year, with the Vice-Chancellor (V-C) saying the new academic session is likely to begin on November 1.

Candidates who have appeared for the Common University Entrance Test (CUET) can register on the portal. The admission process will take place over three phases. This marks the much-awaited commencement of the admission process at Delhi University.  CUET results are expected to be announced on September 15.

Addressing a press conference, DU V-C Yogesh Singh said the university is likely to begin the new academic session on November 1. "We are launching the CSAS portal today for undergraduate programmes.

This is the first time we are taking admission through CUET," he said. The portal will remain open till October 3, giving students a 21-day window to apply for their desired undergraduate programme, Singh said.

To apply, candidates will have to visit the DU admission website and register by clicking on the link that reads ‘admission for undergraduate programmes.’ They will have to fill in all basic details, upload mark sheets, photographs and signatures, and pay the registration fee.

Admission through the CSAS will be conducted in three phases — submission of the CSAS-2022 application form, selection of programmes and filling of preferences, seat allocation, and admission.

On this occasion, Dean Admission, University of Delhi, Professor Haneet Gandhi gave detailed information about the admission process. In the first phase, which began on Monday, applicants have to furnish their personal information, upload their documents and apply for admission under the extracurricular activities (ECA) or the sports quota if they wish.

The registration fee is Rs 250 for unreserved candidates, with an additional fee for ECA and sports-quota admission which will be non-refundable. Candidates wanting to take admission in DU will have to apply through the CSAS-2022 application form only. The application number of CUET (UG)-2022 will be mandatory to apply for CSAS-2022.

In the second phase, the applicants will have to choose their course and college preferences. The CUET score will be required in the second phase of the process, which can only take place once the results have been announced.

A candidate will be required to select the programmes in which they want to take admission. They will have to confirm the programme-specific CUET-UG merit score for all the selected programmes. In the third phase, a merit list will be issued by DU and based on it seats will be allocated.

Applicants will have the option to “freeze” their admission process if they are happy with the course and college they have got. If they opt for “upgradation” instead, they will be allotted a more preferred course-and-college combination subject to availability. For seat allocation in Performance-Based Programs, 50 per cent weightage will be given to the CUET score and 50 per cent to Performance Test Score. For admission under ECA, and Sports Supernumerary Quotas, 25 per cent weightage will be given to the CUET score and75 per cent to certificates and trials.

For both ECA and Sports, the certificates issued between the time period of April 1, 2017 to June30, 2022 will be considered. For admissions to ECA and Sports Supernumerary Quota, Combined ECA Merit (CEM) and Combined Sports Merit (CSM) will be the basis for seat allocation.

DU has also decided that in the first round of seat allotment, each program in each college will have an additional 20 per cent allocation in UR, OBC-NCL,EWS categories and 30 per cent in SC, ST, PWBD categories.
