DTC approves pension scheme for employees

Thursday, 01 September 2022 | Staff Reporter | NEW DELHI

The Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) Board on Wednesday approved a pension scheme for employees and those employees, who were on roll from August 1981 to November 1992 and did not opt for the DTC Pension Scheme of 1992.  The board has also approved extending the benefits of the existing Specialized Medical Scheme of DTC Employees to all retired employees. A proposal to this effect is expected to be brought before the cabinet soon.

“The DTC board also resolved to extend the benefits of the DTC Specialized Medical Scheme to all retired pensioners, non pensioners, their dependents and eligible dependents of deceased employees of DTC. This is expected to benefit 30,000 retired employees of DTC.

The Specialized Medical Scheme by DTC, currently covers only their existing serving employees while the retired employees who are pensioners are paid a fixed medical allowance of `500/- per month which was increased to `1000/- per month in Aug 2021,” Delhi government said in a statement.

The statement further said that retirees who are non-pensioners were not extended any medical benefits. The medical scheme for existing DTC employees covers the cost of the medical treatment including medicines and Inpatient department (IPD)/Outpatient department (OPD) for the individual and their family.

The scheme is proposed to be in the pattern of Delhi Government Employees Health Scheme (DGEHS) for retired employees, where one will have to pay a 10 year lump sum amount as subscription/contribution at the time of retirement for lifetime coverage. For the proposed scheme, if the age of the retired employee is less than 80 years, the subscription will be equal to 10 years as per DGEHS pattern while if their age is more than 80 years, they will have an option to pay the subscription on an annual basis for each year’s coverage or just pay for 10 years at once  for lifetime coverage under this medical scheme.

Earlier, on July 7, 2018, Gahlot had formed a committee of officers from DTC, Union Representatives and Transport Department which suggested an additional financial implication of Rs. 26.50 crore per month for about 12000 retired non pension opted employees.
