Thursday, 19 May 2022 | Staff Reporter | NEW DELHI

The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) on Wednesday conducted a demolition drive in Kalyanpuri’s Khichripur area, to remove illegal structures from public land, during which almost two bigha land was cleared. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Kuldeep Kumar was detained for allegedly obstructing the drive.

According to a senior police officer, the AAP MLA from Kondli (East) reached the spot at the time of the demolition and  started to protest against the drive.

A senior DDA official said the encroachment removal exercise on DDA land of Village Khichripur was scheduled for execution.

“A court case titled Hari Ram Vs DDA is pending in the High Court. The encroachers have filed multiple applications seeking a stay order against the demolition of the encroachment, but the High Court has rejected the stay application of the encroachers. In a recent order dated 06/05/2022, the court questioned DDA for not taking possession of the land since 2019 and directed the authority to take over the possession of land forthwith,” he informed.

“The demolition programme on the land under reference was earlier scheduled thrice, but could not be carried out due to the non-availability of sufficient police force. The demolition programme on the land under reference was again fixed for today in accordance with the above facts, which has been only partially carried out due to protests by the locals, around two bigha land has been cleared,” he added.
