Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel on Monday asked officials to rename three places: Chandkhuri, Giraudpuri and Sonakhan.
The new nomenclature for Chandkhuri will be ‘Mata Kaushalyadham Chandkhuri, Giraudpuri will be Baba Guru Ghasidas Dham Giraudpuri and Sonakhan will become Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh Dham Sonakhan.
A notification will be issued in the gazette, an official communication said.
A delegation of Parliamentary Secretaries Chandradev Rai, Gurudayal Singh Banjare, Indershah Mandavi and U.D. Minj and MLAs Brihaspat Singh, Gulab Singh Kamro and Dr. Vinay Jaiswal submitted a letter to the Chief Minister urging him to change the names of Giraudpuri and Sonakhan based on public sentiments.
Another letter to the Chief Minister by Dr. Mahant Ramsunder Das, Chairman of Chhattisgarh Gauseva Ayog, urged him to rename Chandkhuri as Mata Kaushalyadham Chandkhuri.
Baghel considered the demands and then asked the officials to give new names to these places.
Under the Shri Ram Van Gaman Tourism Circuit, the government has renovated the Kaushalya temple in Chandkhuri, adjacent to Raipur.
Located in Balodabazar-Bhatapara district, Giraudpuri is the center of faith of lakhs of followers of Satnam Panth, the birthplace of Baba Guru Ghasidas, a social reformer.
Sonakhan, also in Balodabazar-Bhatapara district, is known for Veer Narayan Singh, the first martyr of Chhattisgarh in the first freedom struggle of 1857.
