Chhattisgarh’s Aman Jyoti Jahire, who saved an older boy from drowning by jumping into a river despite not knowing swimming, has been selected for the National Child Bravery Award 2021.
The announcement was made by the Indian Council for Child Welfare (ICCW), New Delhi.
Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel and Women and Child Development Minister Anila Bhendia have greeted Aman Jyoti over the selection, an official communication said on Thursday.
Aman Jyoti, 15, a resident of Korba, saved the life of a student older than him. The incident occurred on August 1, 2021 when some students went to a picnic spot, Paraskhola, about 20 km from Korba city.
Ashish Thakur slipped into the gushing water as he was washing his hands and feet. Despite not knowing how to swim, Aman jumped to save the life of his friend.
Ashish was rushed to hospital which saved his life. Aman also received injuries on hands and chest during the attempt.
He had earlier received the Chhattisgarh State Bravery Award from Governor Anusuiya Uikey during the Republic Day function in Raipur.
ICCW announces the National Child Bravery Award for the bravery and courageous deeds of children. They are given a certificate and cash. The date and venue for conferring the award will be announced later.
