Court’s nod for lie test on Shraddha’s butcher

The Delhi Police on Wednesday got the Saket Court’s nod to conduct a narco analysis, or lie detector test, of accused Aftab Amin Poonawalla following several discrepancies in his statement in connection with killing his live-in partner Shraddha Madan Walkar and chopping her body into 35 pieces before dumping them in the forests of South Delhi’s Chhatarpur.

A Delhi Police team on Wednesday again visited the rented house where the crime happened and “also spoke to the landlady” following which the rent agreement with the accused was seized.

The development comes after the Delhi Police approached the court earlier in the morning seeking permission for the test saying that he was not cooperating in the investigation and there’re several discrepancies in Aftab’s statements.

“Following his arrest on November 12, Aftab is not providing correct information about Shraddha’s mobile and the weapon he used to kill her. At times he says he disposed of the mobile in Maharashtra and sometimes says he had dropped the phone somewhere in Delhi,” sources said.

Sources said the court accepted the Delhi Police plea in this regard and the order is expected soon. A psychiatrist will also accompany the police team during the narco test.

The test involves injecting a drug that causes the person to enter into various stages of anesthesia, which induces a hypnotic stage that makes the person less inhibited and more likely to divulge information, which would usually not be revealed in the conscious state.

Sources  said when Aftab was first called for questioning, he told the investigators the victim had left the house on May 22.

The police said it wants to unearth the complete truth of the case and the information about the weapon and Shraddha’s mobile through the “narco analysis test” or a lie detector test.

Police teams are looking for more evidence in the house. The weapon of offence, which has been missing since Aftab’s arrest, is also being searched for, said sources. Police have recovered 13 body parts, believed to be of the woman, from different areas which will be sent for DNA analysis.

According to the police official, one of victim Shradaha Walkar’s friends Laxman, who alerted her father, will be asked to join the investigation.

According to sources, Aftab told the police that he had made up his mind to kill his girlfriend more than a week before the murder.  “More than a week before the murder (May 18), I had made up my mind to kill Shraddha. Even on that day, Shraddha and I had a fight. I was determined to kill her when she suddenly became emotional and started crying. So I held back for later,” sources quoted Aaftab as saying in his confession. Aaftab said his partner had trust issues because of which she would often get angry, leading to frequent quarrels.

“I often had to talk to someone over the phone. However, she would doubt my commitment to the relationship every time she caught me speaking over on the phone. She used to get very angry,” Aftab is reported to have told the Delhi Police. Police said on further investigation, it was learned that the couple had a fight on May 18 during which Aaftab killed Shraddha.
