Trainee pilot hurt as light aircraft crashes near Pune

A lady trainee pilot sustained injuries when a light training aircraft --- in which she was doing a solo sortie --crashed in an open field in Indapur taluka of Pune district.

Trainee-pilot Bhavika Rathod was administered first aid and later taken to nearby private hospital at Shegaon for treatment.

The aircraft involved in the mishap was a Cessna 152 VT-ALI. Owned by Carter Aviation, a flying school in Baramati crashed, following a suspected engine failure.

Meanwhile, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) said that the ill-fated aircraft which was on a solo cross-country flight, made a crash landing, around 15 miles from Baramati Airfield, “due to suspected power loss”.

The Pune local police, Carter Aviation officials and others visited the aircraft crash site.
