Ravi Kant Sharma, mayor of Chandigarh and Anindita Mitra, IAS and commissioner of Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh, rode bicycles from their residences along with other officers and officials of MCC on Wednesday on the occasion of International Car-Free day.
While speaking on the occasion, the mayor expressed that on the day, that is celebrated across the globe encouraging motorists to give up their cars for a day to keep ourselves fit and healthy, we should cycle to work at least once in a week.
The commissioner said that there will be numerous benefits, to the officials and citizens, of going car-freee, including reduced air pollution and the promotion of walking and cycling to ensure a safer environment.
