Yogi inaugurates Noida indoor stadium, promises facilities  to sportspersons

Pledging that his government was committed to facilitating all support to players and promoting sports activities in Uttar Pradesh,  Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath virtually inaugurated an indoor stadium in Noida on Saturday.

Stressing to back the ‘Khelo India’ campaign inspired by Prime Minister Modi, the CM said, “Talented players of our state have been deprived of adequate resources since long. However, our government will leave no stone unturned to provide all necessary assets to them in order to promote sports.”

Yogi also announced the commencement of 65th National Freestyle Senior Wrestling Championship in collaboration with Wrestling Federation of India as the first sports contest at the new Noida indoor stadium.

On the occasion, the CM spoke to several eminent wrestlers including Narasimha Yadav, Amit and Gaurav Kumar and urged them to convey the wrestlers' expectations from the state government.

Yogi further mentioned that a ‘Sports University’ would soon be set up in Meerut which would act as an important platform for players to further hone their talents. Emphasising the importance of teamwork, the CM said, “Just as ‘Team Spirit’ is crucial to winning any sport, combined efforts of the government and people of the state against the Coronavirus have resulted in a successful victory.”

The new multipurpose indoor stadium at Noida is spread over 8040 square metres with a seating capacity of 4000 spectators. Various indoor games like badminton, table tennis, basketball, handball, volleyball, gymnastics, judo, weight lifting taekwondo would be organised there. Besides, the stadium would also host several cultural programs at the national and international levels.

Discussing the pandemic’s adverse effects on all sectors. Yogi explained how sports had been hit the most. Regretting that players could not continue their practice, he assured that after the successful vaccination across the country, all sporting activities would be restored.

The CM advised the players to focus on their practice and their goal assuring them that the government was fully committed towards fulfilling their needs.

Expressing their gratitude to the CM, the grapplers appreciated the construction of the grand stadium.

The event was attended by Industrial Development minister Satish Mahana, Sports minister Upendra Tiwari, President of Wrestling Federation, Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, officers of Defence services, Railways and other Central government departments and wrestlers from 27 states.
