Forest and Climate Change Minister Mohammad Akbar said on Wednesday that under the 'Narva Vikas Yojana', ground water conservation works are being done in various drains of 1,766 km.
On completion, 4,65,172 hectares of land will be revived through treatment, an official communication said.
A large number of structures such as Loose Boulder Check dam, Boulder Check dam, Brushwood Check dam, Contour Trench, Percolation Tank, Ardan Dam, Check dam, Anicut, Stop dam and Gabion are being built for ground water conservation.
This will not only prevent the erosion of forest land but also revive the water reserves, the statement said.
Due to adequate availability of water reserves in the forest areas, wildlife will not go towards the populated areas. Besides, this would help the villagers and farmers around the forests to develop the means of drinking water and irrigation.
