UP govt relaxes night curfew by an hour

Wednesday, 08 September 2021 | PNS | Lucknow

With the state recording just 22 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced further easing of Covid-induced night curfew restrictions in Uttar Pradesh from Tuesday.

As per the new guidelines, the government announced a revision in night curfew timings which will now be in force from 11 pm to 6 am. Earlier, the curfew restriction was imposed from 10 pm.

“In view of the improving COVID-19n situation in the state, the night Covid curfew will remain in force from 11 pm to 6 am. Ensure that all shops, markets and public places are shut down by 11 pm and that no individual roams unnecessarily on the streets after that deadline. The government focus is on restoring normalcy in the state and it aims to save both lives and livelihood, while saving the state from the possibility of a third wave of the pandemic,” said the Chief Minister at a high-level Covif review meeting in Lucknow on Tuesday.

“UP has been maintaining control over the Covid situation fairly well and in view of rising cases in other states, we must not let our guard down. Everyone must follow Covid appropriate behaviour, ensure usage of masks and social distancing,” he stressed.

Signaling effective control over the second wave of COVID-19 pandemic, a total of 22 new cases were recorded in the most populous state in the last 24 hours. The fresh cases have declined by more than 38,000 from its peak which was 38,055 on April 24 and have remained below the 50-mark for four consecutive weeks now in the state.

The less number of fresh COVID-19 cases on Tuesday, however, is not because Uttar Pradesh, like other states, has toned down Covid sample testing. Sticking to its stringent T3 testing mechanism - ’Trace, Test and Treat’, the state government agencies  conducted more than 1.82 lakh Covid tests in the last 24 hours. Besides, the active cases have also declined to 227, making it the lowest active case-count for the state since the second Corona wave surge.

The Test Positivity Rate (TPR) - which shows the level of infections among people - has been registering a steep decline for several days indicating signs that the dangerous Covid wave is receding from the state. The TPR stands at 0.01 per cent in Uttar Pradesh, the lowest in the country.
