The Odisha Human Rights Commission on Wednesday took suo moto cognisance of the incident of alleged torture of four minor boys at the Chitrakonda police station in Malkangiri district and filed a case in this connection. The commission also directed the Malkangiri SP to submit a report by March 30. Earlier, police had picked up four boys from their houses on February 12 in connection with theft of gold ornaments. Instead of forwarding them to court within the next 24 hours, cops allegedly thrashed accused and gave four electric shock at the police station for three days. However, police have refuted allegations and said four are habitual offenders and stolen articles were recovered from their home.
