Residents of Godda district will not have to wait for weeks and even months for the replacement of defunct power transformers of their respective localities as Jharkhand Bijli Vitran Nigam Limited (JBVNL) has decided to set-up a dedicated transformer repairing unit in Godda district.
This may look like a small issue but poor power condition in Godda became an election issue where voters even complained that the electricity department takes even a month to replace a defunct transformer. Rural areas of Godda like Mahagama, meharma have badly suffered.
“Poor power supply was the common complaint of the voters. Transformers could not be replaced because of the lack of availability. I came to know that there is no repair unit. Right after the assembly election I had followed the matter with the electricity department. It will bring huge relief to Godda as it will reduce the time of replacement and repair. The work got delayed due to Covid 19 pandemic,” said Congress’ Mahgama MLA Dipika Pandey Singh.
“The unit is likely to be operational by July as necessary technical infrastructure has been set-up and technicians will be deployed. Now we will not have to transport defunct transformers to Deoghar district. Transporting of transformers to Deoghar and repair therein has always been a tedious and time taking process. It often affected power supply. Currently we are dependent upon Deoghar even for minor repairs,” said an engineer of JBVNL.
The official said it will save transportation costs as well as human resources of the department. The unit has been set-up at the district headquarters of JBVNL.
On an average annually in Godda district around 150 transformers are sent to Deoghar workshop for repair where arranging logistics is quite difficult.
The distance between headquarters of Godda and Deoghar district is around 85 km. But the distance becomes double and even more from Mahgama and such other places.
