Chhattisgarh Police on Saturday seized 1,505 kg of cannabis valued at Rs 2.25 crores and arrested five persons in Gaurela-Pendra-Marwahi district who were transporting it from Odisha to Chhattisgarh. Gaurela-Pendra-Marwahi Superintendent of Police Trilok Bansal told The Pioneer that police intercepted a truck and two cars in the jungles of Banjhorka-Jogisar on a tip on Friday night. Police seized 1,330 kg of contraband packed in 38 gunny bags and hidden under bags of potatoes in the truck, he said.
Similarly, police seized 70 kg of cannabis from one car and 105 kg from the other car. While five persons were nabbed, two men on a motorcycle escaped. The arrested men were truck owner Baisakhu Barik (62), truck driver Upendra Pasi (28), car driver Darshan Singh (49), his accomplice Anand Salma (28) and Ramesh Rathore (36).
Barik, Singh and Salma hail from Odisha, Pasi is from Bihar and Rathore is a resident of Gaurela town in the district, the police said.
