In an effort to make the Capital of India a world-class city, the Delhi Government is organising a high -level workshop on street design on October 5 with the World Resource Institute (WRI – India).
According to Delhi Dialogue Commission (DDC), the workshop will be held with the aim to transform over 500 km of roads in Delhi on the lines of European cities. “It will be an opportunity to learn from the top cities globally and apply those lessons to Delhi’s streets,” Jasmine Shah Vice-Chairperson, DDC said on Friday.
As per sources, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, Public Works Department (PWD) Minister Satyender Jain and Shah will join the workshop apart from senior officials and engineers’ team.Speaking on this occasion, Amit Bhatt, Director of Integrated Urban Transport, WRI India said, “A well-designed street has a positive impact not only on their immediate environment but also improves air quality, reduces congestion and mitigates inequity. Delhi Government’s move towards transforming the streets of the national capital is an example of unprecedented scale and ambition”. The beautification and redesigning of roads, a project of Delhi Government will involve bicycle lanes, large no. of plantations to curb pollution, selfie points, parklets and incorporation of artwork.
The redevelopment efforts will promote improved air quality, reduce congestion and mitigate inequity.
