While taking part in the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav for completing 75 years of Independence, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said that a series of events and activities planned for the next 75 weeks would endeavour to give due respect to the martyrs including those who little known or unknown.
The event marked the beginning of a 75-week-long celebration leading up to Independence Day 2022. Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the celebrations of India's 75th year of Independence by flagging off a padyatra from the Sabarmati Ashram to Dandi.
Expressing a sense of gratitude towards the freedom fighters, the chief minister said: "It is a matter of good fortune that under the leadership of PM Modi, many events are being organised for 75 weeks with joy and gaiety leading up to August 15, 2022."
The chief minister was present at Kakori Shaheed Smarak in Lucknow when the prime minister inaugurated the event.
The celebrations will be held at four places associated with the freedom struggle in UP - Kakori Shaheed Smarak (Lucknow), Shaheed Smarak and Freedom Struggle Museum (Meerut), Shaheed Smarak (Ballia), and Fort of Jhansi and Amrit Mahotsav in Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Auditorium (Jhansi).
The chief minister said, "It is my privilege that today I have been called to visit the memory site of the Kakori incident of 1925 where the immortal martyrs sacrificed their lives for the freedom of the country."
Talking about the Kakori incident, he said that the idea behind the Kakori conspiracy was to secure money belonging to the government. "The conspiracy was aimed at carrying out revolutionary activities against the British to achieve independence," he said.
In his address, the chief minister also talked about the Chauri Chaura incident. As a respect to the martyrs of the incident, the UP chief minister has ordered to organise a series of year-long events to mark the centenary year of the historic Chauri-Chaura incident.
"For one year from February 4, 2021 to February 4, 2022, there will be daily events that will remind us of the Chauri Chaura incident which played a decisive role in the freedom movement. All the children will be made aware of the importance of this event. Candles and lamps will be lightened up at all the martyrs' monuments and statues of legendary leaders," he said.
Giving due respect to the martyrs, the chief minister said, "We must remember the value of freedom and in every situation keep the independence of our country intact."
