nA host of welfare and other schemes are being implemented in Chhattisgarh jails to make them safer and lead their inmates towards rehabilitation, Home Minister Tamardhwaj Sahu said on Tuesday.
He said in a statement that the state has five central, 12 district and 16 sub-jails. They have been equipped with CCTV cameras for better surveillance.
“All the jails have been fitted with solar power advanced security fencing. Also, hand held metal detectors have been provided to guards. Walkie talkies and high range siren have been fitted to deal with any emergency,” Sahu said.
Mobile jammers have been installed at the Central jails in Raipur, Bilaspur, Jagdalpur and Ambikapur; the district jails in Raigarh, Dantewada and Kanker and the sub-jail at Kathghora.
Wire fencing has been done in 11 prisons: Ambikapur, Jagdalpur, Jashpur, Korba, Rajnandgaon, Kanker, Dantewada, Ramanujgunj, Dongragarh, Gariaband and Surajpur.
In the Bilaspur Central Jail, a 440-volt live wire has been set up. An x-ray baggage scanner system has been installed in Raipur and Durg Central jails.
