Bank strike on March 15, 16

A host of bank unions have given a call for strike on March 15 and 16 against the proposed privatisation of two State owned lenders by the Central Government. It is expected that the business transaction of more than Rs 10,000 through the banking sector will be impacted during the two days in the entire State.

Addressing a press meet on Tuesday the State Convener United Forum of Bank Unions, ML Singh said that a talk on this issue is going on with the Central Government to prevent improvisation of nationalized banks if the Government will not listen the Unions' voice then a huge strike will be held on next Monday and Tuesday. All regional banks' employees will also participate in the strike and the Unions requested the private banks also to get their support to ensure success of the strike, he added.

Singh said if the Government will not listen to the voice of Unions after March 15 and 16 then the Unions will chalk out future strategy and it can announce indefinite strike also.

"More than forty five thousand employees of around thirty five hundred nationalized bank branches and around four hundred fifty regional rural banks branches will participate in the strike. Whole banking system will be closed in two days," he added.
