Amid Omicron threat, surge in Covid cases in Ranchi

Friday, 24 December 2021 | PNS | Ranchi

In a worrying trend, the number of daily Covid 19 cases is once again on the rise in the State Capital, as Ranchi recorded cases in double digit after 58 days. As per daily health bulletin released by the Health department, on Wednesday Ranchi recorded 25 fresh cases. Earlier, on October 24, twenty five fresh cases were reported. Across Jharkhand, on Wednesday 51 fresh cases were reported. With a surge in 25 fresh cases, the number of active cases in Ranchi has gone up to 92.

Sources said that most of the fresh cases which were reported in the past few days have travel history as most of the people's samples were collected from Ranchi and Hatia stations.

A senior district administration official said, “As most of the fresh cases samples were collected from Ranchi and Hatia stations having travel history, our task is to trace such samples.”

The official further said that as a surge in corona cases has been witnessed when there is threat of Omicron variant we are taking extra precautions especially giving momentum to vaccination. As per the directive issued by the State Health department vaccination process will be sped up especially in rural areas. The State has set a target on January 15 for complete vaccination in the State.

Stress has been made for the meeting of block level Covid 19 block vaccination task force to be conducted under chairmanship of BDOs involving all stakeholders for Covid vaccination.  As per state health department  mapping of blocks, panchayats, villages to be done by each district to assess the performance for the coverage of first dose against the target eligible population prior to commencement of Maha Abhiyan.

As per the directive colour coding of blocks, panchayats, villages is to be carried out based upon the performance mapping. Less than 50 per vaccination area are mapped as red, 50 to 60 per cent pink, more than 90 per cent dark green. The health department has also stressed on the need to enhance surveillance and genome sequencing efforts for better understanding of circulating SARS-Cov-2 variants.  Genomic surveillance is of crucial importance for early detection and monitoring the epidemiological trends of emerging variants and will provide information to guide response.

As per the testing strategy of the State most of the persons should be classified into groups of vulnerable persons, super spreaders and general populations are tested as per the priority.  Testing should be increased in the areas reporting high cases. Contract testing of all 100 per cent positive cases should be done. Districts will ensure continuous robust oxygen support and independent assessment for each private hospital before designating it as Covid care facility. Districts can plan mock drills for ICUs/PSA plants operations and functionality of oxygen pipelines.

In view of the rising Omicron and Covid cases in the country, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hold a meeting this evening (December 23) to take stock of the situation.
