The 11-day long famous Maa Budhi Thakurani Yatra here at Brahampur ended on Monday.
The yatra is held every two years Keeping the age-old traditions and spiritual sentiments of the public, the ‘Thakurani Yatra-2021’ was, however, observed this year amid Covid-19 restrictions for a shorter duration of 11 days.
Section 144 and night curfew were imposed to restrict the devotees to maintain distance. As per the tradition, on Monday afternoon Maa Thakurani was invited to return to her own temple after staying for 11 days in her temporary adobe.
Soon after the invitation was received, as per the traditions, “Sahasrakshya Ghatta” was installed and puja was performed in the house of Maa Thakurani’s father P Durga Prasad Desibehera which is popularly known as “Dakara Ghatta”.

After performing a special puja in midnight, “Ghatta” of Maa Thakurani came out of her temporary adobe and proceeded to Mahuri Rajbati (the palace of King of Mahuri) where King Ashoak Kumar Narendra Deb performed Puja as per the traditions.
Thereafter, deity Maa Thakurani after visiting different adjoining streets returned to her own temple (her perpetual residence) in the wee hours.
Significantly, Maa Thakurani while going to her own house, took along with her, the “Sahasrakshya Ghatta” and the dress as well as the dowry given by her brother.
There was an unprecedented crowd of devotees near the temporary adobe of Maa Thakurani for last darshan as it was the last day of the yatra. When the situation went out of control, police dispersed the crowd.
