A FRIEND IN NEED IS A FRIEND INDEED

Sunday, 01 August 2021 | Pioneer

There are different types of friendship everybody has in their lives, and I am extremely lucky that my bestie — Raashi Bawa is also my co-star.  We share an amazing bond and trust, which helps us spend some quality time with each other. When she is around, I know all my problems will get a solution. This year, for friendship day, I plan to have lunch with my friends as it's a day to celebrate the bond we have been cherishing. So, planning to have a blast as this day will let me meet my friends and celebrate the day with all the people I love immensely.

God loves you through your friends — this quote got my attention, and I totally agree with it. For me, friendship day means when I meet two of my best friends. They are my friends since college, and I know them for 11 years now. In those four years of engineering, your friends are your family, and this is what happened with me these two are like my family. During the last semester of my college, my acting career began, and I used to come to Mumbai for a weekend acting course. I used to share almost everything with my best friend Bhanu. When I told Bhanu that I would pursue a career in acting, I remember Bhanu writing a very emotional note for me regarding my career and wrote hope to see you on the magazine covers. The sweetest part was he saved money for me so that I am financially strong. I consider that as a token of good luck and, I have kept the note which he gave me. This time I would be celebrating friendship day on a call with them or a video call.

Friendship Day holds a very special place in my heart it's a day when we celebrate the bond which is very near to us. The fondest memory of me with my friends was when I went for a school trip with them to a museum and we celebrated friendship day over there. It's a memory I will never forget. We celebrated over there with home cooked food and a lot of fun we had. This time I will celebrate this special day with my brother as he is my best friend. We will go out for lunch or dinner. My fans are also like my friends as they have made me what I am. I would also like to thank them for the love and affection they are showering us with.

Friendship Day has always been a very special day in my life. I used to be very excited for this day. I love the way we give each other gifts and wishes. The main ritual of this day is to tie a band on your friend's hand. Which is actually super exciting. I used to bring those fancy and pretty bands for my friends. My forearm used to get full with bands even though I used to wear it for a bit long but after getting scolded by my teachers in school we have to remove it. Still I'm having all those bands with me which I collected. I call it a day with sweet memories and I cherish them so much.

Friendship's Day always reminds me of those days when as kids we would spend considerable time in choosing colourful friendship bands for each other. There were always 2-3 bands that were bought for your most special friends while a bunch was bought for the others. I remember when I was in school, I used to be the most excited one to tie a friendship band to people and in fact, often got the most friendship bands too.  Our entire day would go in this and there wasn't a chirpier day at school than celebrating Friendship's Day. Of course, now I believe that there cannot be any one particular day to celebrate friendship and it's something we must do often especially during this pandemic. That way I am blessed to have the most amazing friends in my life be it in my show, Hamariwali Good News or even out of the industry. To all my friends whom I'm unable to meet due to the pandemic, I just want to say I miss you guys.

Since it's Friendship Day, I'd like to talk about my friend Ishika. Initially, I was a very shy and introvert child, who always felt scared to talk to people. As a kid, I didn't have many friends because I never went to school. One day I was standing near the lift of my building waiting for my mother, and suddenly a girl walked up to me and said, “You act on TV right, I've seen your advertisements, why don't you come and play with us”. Right there and then, we exchanged numbers and that's when I started to actually make friends while playing in the garden. It's been almost 11 years since this incident and since I met Ishika. She is that who has always been and will always remain special to me. I feel blessed to have a friend like her.

Friendship in simple words is a relationship you have with your chosen family. Friends are the sisters and brothers we never had and are by our side through life's ups and downs. It feels great to celebrate our friends for special occasions or simply just to brighten their day. I wish everyone a very Happy Friendship. Day.
