“The academic council of the university, in its meeting decided that few colleges/centre may be named after Sushma Swaraj, Swami Vivekananda, Veer Savarkar and Sardar Patel. The further decision on this subject was held at the executive council meeting of the university where it was also informed that the MoE has no objection sources said. The council has now authorised the vice-chancellor to finalise the names.
Sources in the DU said that it has decided to set up the first two colleges in Delhi outer in name of Savarkar and Swaraj.
“It will be a good decision to name or construct new colleges in name of great historical luminaries, unsung heroes. I welcome the proposal of the DU and when it finally comes up it will be a great contribution towards the enhancement of the new education policy which comes after 1986. A women college in the name of a greatly respected leader Sushma Swaraj will keep motivating country to realise the goal of Beti Bachao, Beti Bachao,” said Prof A K Bhagi, dormer DU EC Member and presently President, NDTF (National Democratic Teachers Front).
