Smart cities should develop their own financial resources: Min

Urban Development and Housing Minister Bhupendra Singh said that the incubation centre like the one in Bhopal Smart City, should be set up in other smart cities as well. Singh was reviewing the works of Bhopal, Indore and Gwalior Smart City through video conferencing on Thursday.

Shri Singh said that special attention should be paid to greenery in the smart city area. There should be no less than 17 percent green belt as per the prescribed guide line. Shri Singh said that commercial complexes or shops should not be built by the Smart City Company. The smart city should work to develop basic amenities.

Urban Development and Housing Minister Singh said that smart cities should develop their own financial resources. He said that smart cities should be developed from their own financial resources.

During the meeting, the Municipal Corporation Bhopal Commissioner informed that an income of Rs 1500 crore will be generated by selling about 100 acres of land in Bhopal Smart City area. With this amount, 23 projects will be completed in different areas.

He informed that construction work of 2000 government houses is going on in the area. Of these, 700 houses are near completion. Minister Shri Singh directed to complete the work of Arch Bridge and Smart City Road soon.

The Urban Development and Housing Minister said that the Commissioner Urban Administration and Development should visit Gwalior and inspect the works of Smart City.

He said that the pace of work related to Gwalior Smart City should be accelerated. He said that all projects should be completed within the time-limit.

Singh appreciated the work done in Indore Smart City. He said that work like Indore should also be done in other smart cities. CEOs of Smart City Bhopal, Indore and Gwalior gave information about the works being done and upcoming projects in the meeting. He also spoke about methods of revenue generation.

Principal Secretary Urban Administration and Development Nitesh Vyas, Commissioner Urban Administration and Development Nikunj Kumar Shrivastava, CEO Smart City Bhopal Aditya Singh and other officials were present at the meeting.
