Retd Govt staff to vacate quarters in four months

Wednesday, 02 September 2020 | PNS | BHUBANESWAR

In view of the shortage of Government accommodation in the twin city, the State Government has decided to allow retired Government employees to retain Government quarters for four months after the date of their superannuation. The General Administration and Public Grievances department has issued an order in this regard recently.

Earlier, retired Government employees were allowed to retain Government quarter for eight months from the date of retirement.

Families of deceased Government employees will also be allowed to continue residing in Government quarters for four months only. The concerned employees and families of the deceased employees would also pay flat licence fee for the four months.

Continuance beyond the said limit would be taken as unauthorized stay and eviction measures would be taken against the occupants as per Rules under the Orissa Public Premises (Eviction of Unauthorized Occupants) OPP (EoU) Act, 1972. They would also be charged with a penalty rent, said the order.

It said the practice of submission of undertaking to withhold 50 per cent of Death-cum-Retirement Gratuity (DCRG) by the pension sanctioning authorities till date of vacation of quarters and deposit of licence fee for the permissible period in advance would continue.

This decision has been taken as a part of the Government Accommodation Development Programme (GADP) which aims at increasing availability of Government quarters in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack to meet the growing demand of the employees.
