The Chhattisgarh Forest Department had signed a MoU with the Wildlife Institute of India (WII) under which satellite radio collars were to be attached to 12 wild elephants so that their live location could be known. “WII was to attach 12 radio collars. However, they could do it only on five elephants. Of these, only three radio collars are working. Of these three, one elephant was radio collared by the Forest Department,” Arun Pandey, the Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forest (APCCF), told The Pioneer over telephone.
